Kids Choirs
Kids Music Ministry at Retta Baptist Church!
Sunday nights, 6:00-7:00 During the school year
Music is such an amazing tool for people of all ages, and especially for kids! During the school year, we have a weekly Sunday night kids music ministry in which we (1) learn songs that teach us about God, the Bible, and our church, (2) learn about how music helps us worship, (3) learn how to read music, build rhythmic skills, and even play some instruments, and (4) play games that teach us about music and help us have a great time!
We have three different choirs for our different age groups, as listed below. The major event for the kids music ministry during the summer is our summer Music Camp. You can learn more about that on our Music Camp page.
Busy Bee Choir - PreK and K
"We are the Busy Bee choir! We are the Busy Bee choir! We sing songs about Jesus 'cause we are the Busy Bee choir!" This choir's simple theme song beautifully captures what happens in this fun group. They use music to teach basic truths from God's Word - like how much Jesus loves them - and to teach how the kids can praise God.
Music Makers - 1st-3rd Grades
Our elementary choir begins to look at the more technical aspects of music - looking at song sheets, reading musical symbols, and learning basic rhythms. They also start to explore their musical creativity in more depth and how God wants us to use music to His glory!
Night Light 101 - 4th-6th
Our preteen choir calls itself "Night Light 101" because they're getting ready to join the student choir ("The Sound of Light"). In this group, we start to focus on the use of music in worship, how to understand a song's message, and we even begin to look at songwriting. Depending on the group, we analyze song structures, learn how to use hymnals, and work with more complicated musical notation. If any of the kids are learning how to play instruments, we try to make that a part of our music, as well!
