There really aren't any age restrictions on our choir, but we call it the adult choir because it rehearses at the same time as our primary youth and children's events - so only adults come! Our choir has two primary purposes:
· to be the visible leaders in our worship gatherings on Sunday mornings;
· to share messages of God's love from God's Word during worship services throughout the year.
Of course, we have a great time. Our rehearsals are marked by a short Bible study, musical rehearsal, and prayer.
Musical Styles
Our choirs sings music that comes from an even wider range of styles than marks our congregational music. Where our congregational music often stops at what many people call "traditional," the choir will go further into styles that might even be called "classical." Where our congregational music stops at bluegrass and country gospel, the choir will continue to Southern Gospel and beyond. The choir will also learn and introduce the very latest songs written for churches around the world.
There is no age limit for our band and orchestra! All you need is access to an instrument, the ability to follow sheet music, a love for music, and the ability to get to our rehearsals!
Our music library is equipped with music for most of the common orchestral instruments. In fact, I can think of very few instruments that wouldn't fit our Sunday morning music team! Our mix has included everything from flute to electric guitar, and God has used all of it to help our congregation worship Him through song.
Our band and orchestra regularly accompanies the choir in addition to bringing their own musical offerings, but our primary purpose is to support congregational worship. Every song we sing as a church is accompanied by our full cast of musicians - even the very newest songs are arranged for full orchestra.
Our adult choir rehearses during the church's Wednesday night activities:
Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 during the school year, and
Wednesday, 6:30-7:30 during the summer.
Our orchestra rehearses after choir and again on Sunday mornings:
Wednesday, 8:15-9:00ish during the school year, and
Wednesday, 7:45-8:30ish during the summer, and
Sunday morning, 8:30-9:15 all year.
Membership in the choir and orchestra is open to just about anyone, and there is no limit to the number of people we can have involved! We would love to have you come and be a part of our team!
We really only have two requirements, if you want to call them that: you must love music, and you must understand that we do this for the glory of God, not to draw attention to ourselves! Notice that "ability" is not a requirement. There are no auditions. God does not use words like "quality" when it comes to His worship. This is what God asks of His worshipers: to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him. He then turns a joyful noise into the beautiful music of worship. We would love for you to worship God with us!
